About Me

Hi, I’m Erica Mao, a creative explorer who finds joy in turning words into something you can hold, feel, and be uplifted by.

When I’m not creating embossed cards or designing artwork, I love spending time in nature, exploring outdoor sports like surfing and hiking, and discovering inspiration from quiet moments and positive conversations. I also enjoy learning languages and diving into creative projects that combine art, meaning, and mindfulness.

What WAKUDOKI.ART Means

“WAKUDOKI” = that heart – pounding excitement, And my mission is to share positivity and emotional support through embossed art.

Why Do I Started

The heart behind the words

WAKUDOKI.ART was born from a deep belief: that words have the power to move hearts, encourage action, and transform lives.

When I was 20 years old, I hearted about Stanford University for the first time. I knew it was one of the most prestigious universities in the world, and while I didn’t think I could attend a class there, I told myself: ”At least I can visit.” So I went. When I arrived on campus and touched the walls of the building, I felt something unforgettable. It wasn’t a dream — it was real. That moment left a mark on my heart.

Since then, I’ve attended several Stanford events, spoken with students, and most recently, joined the Code in Place program — a free course taught by Stanford professors. Every week, I join live discussions with people from all over the world. I still believe that one day I’ll attend a course in person on Stanford’s campus — even if it’s I’m 70 years old! (Haha)

Why am I telling you this story? Because during every step of that journey, powerful words lifted me up. Words like:

” Don’t be afraid to take a chance.”

“Everything is possible.”

“Just do it.”

Another moment that shaped me was when I applied for an internship at a French company. The position involved translating and editing manuals. I could speak Chinese, English, and Japanese fluently, but I had just started learning French. I was nervous — but instead of giving up, I said to myself:

”Go for it. Go boldly. Keep learning. Send that email.”

And I did.

and I got the job.

These are the moments that made me who I am — and why I started WAKUDOKI.ART. Because I know, from experience, that a single phrase can give someone the courage to try, to grow, to believe. Through my handmade embossed art, I want to share those words with you — words that might brighten your day, shift your mindset, or help you move forward.

This is more than art. It’s encouragement you can hold in your hands.
